Inclusion at Beecroft Academy

At Beecroft Academy, we believe that every pupil, regardless of their background, needs or starting points, has the right to a high-quality, fulfilling and equitable education. Our approach to inclusion is fundamental to our ethos which informs and shapes our school culture, curriculum and leadership.

Identifying and meeting the needs of all pupils

Through a rigorous and systematic approach we  ensure early identification and targeted support for all pupils facing barriers to learning.

  • Disadvantaged pupils: We strategically deploy Pupil Premium funding and other resources to ensure pupils who are socio-economically disadvantaged receive the support and opportunities necessary to succeed. We focus on evidencing the impact of this spending on their academic and personal outcomes.

  • Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND): We use our best endeavours to secure the necessary provision for all pupils with SEND, including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Our staff receive high-quality, targeted training in inclusive teaching and curriculum adaptation.

  • Vulnerable pupils: We provide dedicated, holistic support for pupils known to or previously known to children's social care, ensuring their well-being and safeguarding are prioritised so they can fully access the curriculum.

  • English as an Additional Language (EAL): We recognise and celebrate the linguistic strengths of our EAL learners, ensuring the curriculum is scaffolded and explicitly teaches subject-specific vocabulary to accelerate their language acquisition and academic progress.

  • Young Carers: We are dedicated to supporting our young carers to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. We understand the unique challenges. We ensure early identification through staff training and a clear referral pathway. Once identified, we offer flexible and personalised support, which includes access to our Wellbeing Officers who act as a consistent point of contact, providing emotional check-ins  and liaison with external support services. We offer peer support groups during the school day and during holidays. By ensuring confidentiality and offering both practical and emotional resources, we strive to create an inclusive environment where young carers feel safe, understood and empowered to engage fully with their education.

An accessible and adaptive Curriculum

Our curriculum is intentionally designed to be broad, balanced, and ambitious for all pupils, reflecting a commitment to high expectations while making reasonable adjustments where needed.

  • Inclusive Teaching: Our teachers are skilled in using adaptive teaching techniques to ensure all pupils, including those with SEND, can access the same curriculum content and are challenged appropriately in their learning.

  • Cultural Capital: We enrich our curriculum with opportunities that broaden cultural capital and celebrate diversity, ensuring all pupils see themselves and their backgrounds positively reflected in their learning materials.

High expectations for all: We do not allow a pupil's background or identified need to limit the ambition of their education. We consistently track the progress of vulnerable groups to ensure they are achieving on par with, or better than, their peers nationally.

Fostering an Inclusive Culture and Environment

We ensure every member of our community feels safe, respected, and valued at Beecroft Academy.

  • Positive behaviour and attendance: We foster an inclusive culture and establish clear routines and processes to promote positive behaviour and maximise attendance, viewing both as a crucial measure of effective inclusion. We proactively address any instances of bullying or discrimination.

  • Pupil voice and well-being: We actively seek out the views and experiences of pupils, especially those who are disadvantaged or have SEND, to inform our provision. Well-being is central to our work, ensuring a supportive and nurturing environment.

  • Leadership and Accountability: Our leaders and governors are fully knowledgeable about their statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010 and the Children and Families Act 2014. Inclusion is a key accountability measure for all staff, ensuring it is consistently and effectively embedded across the school.
