At Beecroft Academy we believe Computing contains essential skills needed to prepare our pupils for their future in learning and in later life. We want to excite and inspire our pupils with the possibilities of technology, provoke curiosity and allow them to develop the key knowledge and skills from Early years up to Year 6.

Using a combination of Purple Mash and Teach Computing, teachers are able to plan exciting and engaging activities where pupils are ‘Achieving Excellence Together’. Weaved throughout our curriculum are the ‘Big Ideas’ of significance, growth, change, democracy and investigation. These give the pupils the opportunity to explore and recognise how technology has changed over time. They will learn about significant people who have influenced and made changes within technology in the past and present and the impact this has had on the way we can live our lives today.

Pupils are taught to use a range of different programs developing skills to communicate ideas, be creative and understand the idea and application of coding. Our aim is to provoke curiosity and encourage pupils to ask questions about how things work, how they use technology effectively and the relevance in their learning across the curriculum.

Online and internet safety is taught explicitly using ‘Purple Mash’, Teach Computing and additional resources from ‘Think you Know’ throughout our Curriculum to ensure that pupils are aware of how to remain safe and equip them with the skills to react in the appropriate way when if an issue were to arise in school or at home.
