'The best way to predict the future is to design it.'
Buckminster Fuller
We believe that Design and Technology helps prepare children for the developing world. Through our carefully designed curriculum, we offer children the opportunity to become creative problem solvers individually and as part of a team from Early Years to Year 6. The children are encouraged to become innovators and risk takers showing creativity and imagination to make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
At Beecroft Academy we follow the Cornerstones curriculum creating a broad and balanced mixture of rich knowledge and skills for the different areas such as textiles, mechanisms and structures and food technology. Links are made with other areas of the curriculum such as computing, mathematics and science. Weaved throughout the curriculum are ‘The Big Ideas’ of significance, growth, change, democracy and investigation. Our children will learn about significant people from the past and present day, their creations and the impact these have had on the way we live. Through the process of investigation, planning, constructing and then evaluating their products, children really gain a good understanding of the steps needed to be successful and ‘Achieve Excellence Together’. Children will compare and contrast their products and celebrate their success by show casing their products in their classrooms and around the school.
