At Beecroft Academy, our history curriculum has been designed to spark curiosity, promote enquiry, foster enjoyment and provide opportunities for our pupils to become historians whilst exploring the significant events and people of the past in Britain and the wider world.

We have carefully designed and sequenced a high-quality curriculum that allows our pupils to ‘Achieve Excellence Together’. Weaved within are opportunities for our pupils to explore ‘The Big Ideas’ significance, growth, change, democracy and investigation. Teachers plan lessons to inspire all pupils to develop a broad historical and cultural awareness. Pupils will be exposed to historical concepts such as chronology, cause and consequence, contrasting interpretations and historical significance. Our pupils will be equipped with a secure, coherent knowledge which is vocabulary rich, allowing them to develop their understanding of abstract concepts as they move through school.

History is vitally important as it provides pupils with the opportunities to empathise with others, argue a point of view and reach their own conclusions whilst exploring a range of historical evidence and sources.

At Beecroft Academy, we believe that if pupils become knowledgeable historians, they will be able to articulate their understanding with confidence and will understand how the past has influenced modern day life and how it can shape the future. It raises their aspirations, encourages them to respect others and teaches them how to become a responsible citizen through the study of past events and their consequences.
