‘Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit, and never dies.’

Edward Bulwer Lytton

At Beecroft Academy, we want our pupils to develop a love for music; celebrating our diverse community and cultures and inspire one another to ‘Achieve Excellence Together’.

Our curriculum is planned and taught using ‘Charanga’, having songs at the heart of every session. Key concepts in Music are taught with a broad balance of knowledge and skills from Early Years up to Year 6.  Teachers plan opportunities for pupils to listen and appraise music from significant musicians, complete musical activities and develop their performance skills.  They explore a range of different instruments; brass, percussion, woodwind and strings and learn about the techniques used when playing. During our music sessions, pupils develop their knowledge and understanding of the different musical notes and how music is written for them to be able to play and enjoy.

Weaved throughout the Music curriculum are the ‘Big Ideas’ of significance, growth, change, investigation and democracy. It is important that our pupils understand how music has changed and developed over history and the impact music can have on us socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically.

Music brings joy and happiness and we believe all pupils can aspire to be talented musicians and encourage them to be proud and share their talents during singing and class assemblies.
