Junior Leadership Team
We value the views and opinions of all pupils and work togther with them to develop our school.
Our Junior Leadership Team consists of the following groups:
- Head Pupils, Deputy Pupils
- Prefects
- School Council Representatives
- Eco Council Representatives
- House Captains
- Sports Leaders
- Librarians
Head Pupils and Deputy Head Pupils
These four leadership roles are decided at the beginning of each academic year. Pupils are nominated by staff at the end of Year 5 who consistently demonstrate that Beecroft values. Pupils are invited to present a speech to the whole school to explain why they feel they would be a suitable candidate. Democratic voting then takes place by all pupils and the successful candidates are elected.
Their responsibilities include:
- Attendance at school council meetings
- Helping present awards in assemblies
- School tours
- Representing the school at external events
Prefects
Our prefects are pupils in Year 6 who consistently demonstrate the Beecroft values.
They are role models to their peers.
School Council Representatives
Every class votes for a school council representative. This pupil represents their class' views and ideas at the regular school council meetings held with the headteacher. These meetings focus on how the school and its community can be further developed.
Minutes of these meetings are recorded and shared with all school members.
Eco Council Representatives
As a school we are working towards three areas this year after the Eco-Councillors took part in an environmental review. The three areas are: Litter, Waste and Energy.
Swap Shop
We have introduced a Swap Shop where we have swapped toys and books already this year. The PTA also run a Uniform Swap shop alongside these. In the summer term we are looking to host one more swap shop.
Energy Award
Eco councillors will now be awarding an energy award monthly to the class that has their lights, interactive whiteboard and laptops turned off the least when no one is in the room. This will hopefully help to reduce our energy usage and our energy bills.
Soft Plastic Recycling
We have recently introduced soft plastic recycling bins into classrooms as we have bagels everyday for breakfast. Soft plastic cannot be recycled in the usual recycle bins. The eco councillors will empty their soft plastic bins weekly and take it to a local soft plastic recycling location; which is usually supermarkets or shops. This will hopefully support our recycling throughout the school.
House Captains
Beecroft Academy has four houses named after the nearby roads; Brewers, Maidenbower, Westfield and Drovers.
Each house has two house captains who are responsible for collating house points and leading their houses at events.
Sports Leaders
Our sports leaders are trained to support their peers at lunchtime through leading play and sporting activities.
Librarians
Our librarians support the organisation of the school library as well as being reading champions across the school.
They help to promote a love of reading and encourage their peers to use the reading opportunities all around the school; the school libarary, class libraries, reading stations, lunch time reading on the playground and reading club.
